The story

I'm Charlie Blackwell, a Year 12 student sitting AS Psychology in June 2026 and the full A-level in June 2027. I started building ExamGoat because the existing tools I tried felt like they were written for a teacher, not a student about to sit a Psychology paper.

What I actually wanted was something that would show me a study, ask me to name the researcher, then bring it back in a few days if I got it wrong. Something that knew which 16-mark essay topics I'd avoided, and quietly pushed me toward them. Something that marked my essays the way an AQA examiner would, using the actual band descriptors. That is what ExamGoat is.

The spec it covers is AQA Psychology 7181 / 7182 v1.4, the September 2025 specification. Everything is mapped to the assessment objectives (AO1 description, AO2 application, AO3 evaluation) and the AQA mark bands, so you are practising the actual exam, not a watered-down version of it.

I'm the person writing all of it. If a question could be sharper or a study is wrong, I want to know.

Each essay is marked using the AQA band descriptors, with realistic feedback split across AO1, AO2 and AO3.

Why I am letting other students use it

I built this for me, but it works just as well for anyone sitting AQA Psychology in 2026 or 2027. Most of the app is free. There is a paid tier (£2.99 one-off or £3.99 a month) for unlimited AI essay marking, which covers the API costs and a small amount toward the time it takes to keep writing content.
